Ministries

One of the great things at The Church of the Holy Trinity is that YOU can be involved in a wide variety of fun events and groups.  Here are just a few; if one or more appeal to you, call 402-488-7139 for more information.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild
Altar Guild

This working guild is responsible for preparing the altar for every worship service. This includes the weekly and seasonal worship services as well as all baptisms, weddings, funerals, and all other special services. In addition, the guild is responsible for care of the linens, candles, vessels, and vestments used by the clergy of the church.  Now open to men and women-come on, ladies, bring the husband with you!

Choir

Choir

The Holy Trinity Choir graces our services with sung prayer.  Under the direction of Loretta Love, they lead the congregation in song, and sing anthems for deepening our worship time.  All are welcome to join; rehearsal is on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m.

Christian Education and Formation

Christian Education and Formation
Christian Education and Formation

This group leads our Bible studies, adult programs, Sunday Funday and Vacation Bible School programs for the children. We also direct the annual Christmas presentation. Ongoing Bible Study is offered throughout the year.  Special adult programs are available in Lent, Advent and the summer.  Sunday Funday is once a month which includes music, a lesson, a craft, and lunch. Vacation Bible School is based on a different theme each year and is open to the children from the neighborhood.

Communications

Communications
Communications

This committee is responsible for communications from the church. This includes the website, Facebook, Yellow Pages, printed ads and publicity for upcoming events -- perhaps one of the most important ways of sharing the good news of this parish!  We are always looking for people to work on this ministry.

Community Ministry

Community Ministry
Community Ministry

This committee heads up the church’s mission of support to the community, both internal and external.   We are active in raising money through events such as Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, and other events throughout the year. This group offers support to local human service agencies as determined by the group with a special emphasis on the Lincoln Food Bank and St. Monica's.  During the summer, we work every week to prepare bags of food for the Back Pack Program, and throughout the year we help at the Hawthorne emergency pantry.  We have a long and continuing relationship with St. Monica's and sponsor a team for the Amazing Chase each year.

Episco-Pals

Episco-Pals
Episco-Pals

One of the many adult fellowship groups, Episco-Pals is open to any member of the parish. It is a very informal, loose-knit group that likes to get together at various times during the year, usually pot-luck around a food theme. This group sponsors the annual Shrimp Boil and other, usually ethnic-oriented, dinners. Gatherings are generally at members' homes, but occasionally they may be held elsewhere due to the theme.

Hand Bell Choir

Hand Bell Choir

Holy Trinity is pleased to have an active hand bell choir with a full five octave set of bells.  Under the direction of Nancy Youngman, the bell choir graces our worship service with music the first Sunday of the month, from September through May, and performs special concerts throughout the Lincoln area.  They have been performing for more than 25 years.  If you are interested in joining bells, please call the parish office.

Landscape

Landscape

This group of nature lovers or "gardening angels" is responsible for the care and maintenance of our grounds, including the English Garden in the Courtyard. While mowing and snow removal are handled commercially, this group maintains our campus by timely tree-trimming, weeding, raking leaves, and general clean-up. Usually two big efforts are organized in the spring and fall.

Liturgical Ministers

Liturgical Ministers
  • Lay Eucharistic Ministers: During our weekly service of Holy Eucharist, Lay Eucharistic ministers administer the chalice to the congregation.  By canon law, this is a licensed ministry and training is available at Holy Trinity, also.

  • Lay Eucharistic Visitors: Specially trained Eucharistic ministers go and administer Eucharist to people unable to attend regular worship.  This is a licensed ministry and requires Safe Church Training, also.

  • Lectors: After a short period of study and training presented by the clergy, this group of individuals read the lessons during the worship service, proclaiming for the congregation the story of our salvation. Some may also serve as Chalice Bearers.

Memorial Committee

Memorial Committee

The Memorial Committee helps oversee the memorial giving to the parish.  This group sets policy and procedures for vestry to approve in order to best accomodate the wishes of the families and donors.  Memorial gifts are used for a variety of ministries including music, building and to help Holy Trinity in general ministry.

Parish Life

This group provides food and servers for a wide variety of functions including receptions, concerts and special events, funeral luncheons, and annual church gatherings.  Serving with this group is an excellent way to get acquainted with other members of the parish.

St. Elizabeth’s Guild

St. Elizabeth’s Guild
St. Elizabeth’s Guild

This women's social group of the parish meets monthly for lunch and fellowship and is open all female members of the church and the community.  The guild remembers our homebound members of the church with seasonal cookie plates and Christmas cards.  Fundraising activities support the Rector’s and Deacons’ Discretionary funds, Episcopal ministries, and at least one community agency for outreach.

Vestry

Vestry
Vestry

Vestry is responsible for the long-term vision and mission of the church as well as the business side of the church.  It is the decision-making and governing body of the church, working with programs, plans and budgets. It consists of the Rector, two wardens and nine elected lay representatives from the parish. Terms are for three years, and one-third of the lay representatives are elected each year at the Annual Meeting of the parish.

Budget/Finance

This group works with the Treasurer, the rector and the vestry and is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the church’s annual budget. They also advise regarding the investment and maintenance of the Church’s financial assets and endowments.

This list barely scratches the surface of the total ministries of Holy Trinity Church. If you would like to learn more about any of these or other ministries, please contact the parish office at 402-488-7139.
